How to transfer a domain to HostChacho
Move a domain from another registrar in three steps, keeping your website and email running.
Transferring moves the registration of a domain you already own to HostChacho. Your website and email keep working during the transfer, because the nameservers don't change.
Before you start
- For most extensions the domain must be more than 60 days old and not transferred in the last 60 days. This is an industry rule, not ours.
- It must not be close to expiring. If it expires within a couple of weeks, renew it first.
- The email address on the domain's WHOIS record must reach you, because the old registrar may email it to approve the move.
Step 1: unlock it and get the code
At your current registrar, turn off the transfer lock (sometimes called registrar lock) and ask for the transfer code, also called the EPP or authorisation code. See What is an EPP code?
Step 2: start the transfer
Go to Domain transfer, enter the domain and its code, and complete checkout. A transfer costs one year at the domain's renewal price, and that year is added to the registration.
Step 3: approve it
Your old registrar may send an email asking you to approve the transfer. Approving it speeds things up. Most transfers finish within 5 to 7 days, and you'll see the domain as Pending Transfer in your account until then.
