Which validation do you need?

Domain validated (DV)
Proves you control the domain, usually by email or a DNS record. Issued within minutes, with no paperwork. Right for most websites and blogs.
Organisation validated (OV)
The certificate authority also checks your company’s registration, and your company name goes into the certificate. For businesses that want visitors to see who runs the site.
Extended validation (EV)
The strictest checks of your company’s legal, physical and operational existence. Often required by banks, payment providers and larger shops.

Questions

Do I need a paid certificate if hosting includes free SSL?+

Most sites don’t: the free certificate encrypts traffic just as well. Choose a paid one to cover every subdomain with a wildcard, several domains on one certificate, or to have your company verified (OV or EV).

What does a wildcard certificate cover?+

Wildcard SSL secures a domain and all its subdomains, such as shop., mail. and app.yourdomain.com, on one certificate for £50.70 a year.

How long does it take to get a certificate?+

Domain-validated certificates are issued within minutes of confirming the domain. Business (OV) certificates take 1 to 3 working days and extended validation (EV) 3 to 7, while the certificate authority checks your company’s documents.

Can I use it if my site is hosted somewhere else?+

Yes. After checkout you get the certificate files to install on any server. On HostChacho hosting we install it for you.

What happens when it expires?+

Certificates last a year. We remind you before it ends; renew from your account and we issue and install the new one.
